Looking for child care is like looking for a husband; there are many great guys out there, not all of them would make a good husband for you! You need to find a great match for you and your family; not settle for a program that may not meet your needs. Settling often leads to having to move the child to another program; which is very difficult for young children. If you haven't found the right place, keep looking.

Make a list of all the "must have" and "must not have" that your dream program would include. Bring this checklist to every place you visit. Some things to consider: Has the provider an education in Early Childhood Education and years of experience; is the program Accreditated and by which agency; Is this a career for this provider or just something to bring in extra money; are pets part of the program; off-site outings and if so, how are they transported and do the parents need to provide a car seat; meals provided or do parents provide; what activities are planned or is it free play; how structured is the program; is this a program we can grow with or will we need to find something else in a year or two; will they take future siblings;  how is discipline handled; is there any religious activities; do you want your home language spoken or perhaps your child may learn a new one; convenience to home and/or work; will I commute with my child or have one parent drop off while going to work later, and the other parent go in earlier so they can pick up earlier; do I feel I can communicate with this provider;  do I feel comfortable here.

Go with your gut instinct. When you find the right place, you will know it!
